More about John Flanagan

Overview
My professional skills, experience and expertise are encompassed by and concentrated in the mental activity involved in analyzing and synthezing information concerning innovations (called inventions) in an effort to discover and then describe in a written patent application the essential makeup and function of the innovation together with a highlighting (claiming) of the boundaries of its original (non-obvious) aspects with respect to which a patent issued after the examination of the patent application seeks to protect.

Places I have worked
John R. Flanagan Since November 1984
1-9 employees
registered patent attorney
IP and patents / legal profession
For the past 23 years I have been engaged in a solo private practice of patent law. For 15 years prior to that I was a corporate patent attorney for 12 years and then a government patent attorney for 3 years immediately preceding the start of my private patent practice years. My career in the patent field spans 40 years so in my initial 2 years I was employed in the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office as a patent examiner, on the opposite side of the table, so to speak, from where I have sat for the past 38 years. To describe what has happened to the four corporations which I worked for from 1969-1981 is a commentary on what has happened in corporate America over the last 30 years. The first corporation I worked for from 1969 to 1972 was American Can Company, a company who had long been a part of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, but which in the 1980s was broken up, merged and otherwise transformed out of existence and into what I believe is now the Travelers or Citicorp entity.
