| Make Mentoring Work For You |
| |
| Diane Brady at BusinessWeek wrote a nice article about McGraw-Hill's mentoring practice of pairing members of unrelated business units together. At first Diane was skeptical, but she found that these relationships may be more candid due to the lack of conflict that members from the same business unit may experience. Furthermore, new creative ideas and projects can spring from these relationships. She shared ideas for getting the most out of mentoring, including mixing up venues (meeting at different places each time), focusing the conversation (for example, by using a book), develop a mentoring circle that includes partners outside of your busines sunit, and encouraging each other to stretch.
