Robert Redford has made his own war commentary on film, and this time the emphasis is on igniting a spark in the younger generation to speak out about what's happening in the world.
"Lions for Lambs" joins "Rendition" (see Monday's post) in exploring the business of war on the big screen, particularly from our own U.S. perspective. Redford directs and stars in the new film, which just made the Rome Film Fest. And he's got some megawatt help: The movie also stars Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep (who not-so-ironically also stars in "Rendition" -- she's on a quest).
"We have lost lives, we have lost sacred freedoms, we have lost financial stability, we have lost our position of respect on the world stage," Redford is quoted by the Associated Press. "The future is going to belong to young people and young people have to take command of their voice."
Streep plays a journalist in the film, while Cruise is a senator. So what do you think? Is Hollywood going to persuade young people to speak out against war?
