| Would You Put Your "MBA" On Your Business Card? |
| |
I was surprised to learn that people who have MBAs may give the wrong impression by putting it behind their names on business cards ("Why You Should Leave 'M.B.A.' Off Your Card"). The reason is that this could be regarded as pretentious or less prestigious than, say, a doctorate degree in healthcare or sciences. Finally, shouldn't one's track record of success speak for itself without the need to announce the MBA on a business card?
Since I don't have an MBA, I don't have this dilemma. However, I have many colleagues who are doctorates and went back to school for an MBA. They do update their business cards to reflect the MBA, even if they already hold a degree that may be perceived (according to people quoted in the above-linked article) as "not like a certification or license". If I had an MBA, I would probably put it on my business card if I were to include my PhD degree. To me, it's just a listing of degrees and I don't read beyond that. Otherwise, I'd leave both degrees off my name in a business card.
