| Thank God for Queen Latifah, saying what needs to be said, that not every Hollywood celebrity needs to be a size-2, blond-haired, blue-eyed Dresden doll. In a story in People magazine, Queen Latifah says the definition of beauty is changing, that nowadays we have more “flavors and shades” of what’s acceptable for beauty.
"(In Hollywood) we've definitely gotten better with body type," she says. "It used to be just me! Now with Jennifer Hudson's success and America Ferrera, I got some successors to take the reins on this whole bodylicious thing."
Camryn Manheim, C.C.H. Pounder, even gals like Marion Ross or Shelley Winters, who’ve chosen to appear in roles in their later years just the way they are … There are a few others who’ve blazed that trail, too. Let’s hope it continues, and that someday perhaps we can “desensitize” our view of what’s beautiful and what’s not.
By the way, Queen Latifah admits to having breast surgery – breast reduction surgery. After back and shoulder pain, she opted to lighten up a little, so to speak.
The Associated Press has a little more on the story here.
