From one screen to another …

Ahhh … our lives move more and more onto the Internet …

I love the Internet. I always tell people how we are a fortunate generation: We can remember life before the Internet, and we certainly know life after the Internet. We’re a transitional generation at a most important transition, culturally speaking. So, being a lover of the Internet, I’m thrilled to pieces when I can go online and watch TV-show episodes after the power went out at my house and / or my clunky 50-dollar VCR failed me (sorry – not doin’ that TiVo thing just yet). I love going to NBC.com and watching last week’s “Heroes” – in beautiful definition, I must add, better than my TV, actually.

Well, recently the Internet has launched its own TV shows. In other words, you can be a TV buff and not even own a TV, nowadays! Case in point is the new web-based drama from the creators of “thirtysomething.” It’s called “quarterlife,” and it deals with the angst of being a twentysomething. It launched on MySpace.com yesterday and is also available at its own site, quarterlife.comThe Los Angeles Times compares it to other web-based shows, as well as other programs in the drama genre.

And, to take this evolution even further (‘cuz it all is an evolution, ya know, and we’re along for a great ride!), the website that accompanies “quarterlife” seeks to be even more. It’s not just a storefront for the show or the backstory on the characters; it seeks to be a “community for artists, thinkers, and doers,” a place to sign up, join in and express your opinion.

My, my, this brave new Internet world is just bursting out all over.
