The Hazzard County Cruise-In in Covington, Georgia, continued on last night, when it rained -- but it wasn't a wash! Lots of fans from all over the place came out to the square in Covington. Kansas, Ohio, Montana, New York -- even Holland and England! And after the sprinkles set in -- then the harder stuff -- many stayed on.

Jo McLaney of Covington is a special person in "Dukes of Hazzard" lore. She owned a floral shop on the town square when the show originally filmed there in 1978, filling orders such as boutonnieres for Boss Hogg's lapel. She's lobbied the local government regarding filming in Covington, and she compiled a museum of "Dukes" memorabilia, part of which is still on display in the back of the shop A Touch of Country. At the Cruise-In last night, she had the coolest ride in town, all decked out like the General Lee!

Here, Jon Holland, author of the book "The Roads Back to Early Hazzard," chats with attendees, accompanied by his wife, Amber.

Judy Bruce appeared in the show's pilot episode, "One Armed Bandits." Here she poses with her co-star in that episode -- sorta! In the episode, Judy is the little girl from the orphanage who climbs into Boss' Cadillac at the end and fiddles with his hat. She still lives locally and comes out for events like this. Anyone who's ever visited Covington would most likely be amazed at how many people who were once involved in the production of the show still live there and talk about it.

Jim Fullerton, another local resident, actually created this wooden model of the Boar's Nest, complete with Matchbox-style cars. It even features Boss Hogg standing at the door, yelling at Daisy to come in and get to work! Wow! It's certainly a specialty item, a one-of-a-kind, and it's on display at the "Dukes" museum in the back of A Touch of Country on the town square.
I'll post more next week after I've absorbed the actual DukesFest event -- and all that entails -- this weekend!
